I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s never received a Valentine’s Day Card. I’m not the only one who, the next day, either had to admit it, or concoct a story of some secret admirer and make it sound so hot that I couldn’t show anyone. In the west, that’s something you deal with. Everyone’s different. Some people get six cards and some of us get none. I’m not bitter about it. But in a society where the team is all-important and no one wants to stand out – where loss of face accumulates over a lifetime – never getting a Valentine’s card could be cause for suicide. And no one in a team wants to lose someone to such a senseless cause, so they make sure that everyone gets chocolate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
