As I was cycling to RIM this morning (behind a bunch of monks getting a lift in the tray of a Police utility) a helicopter took off from the army base. It was enough of a novelty to the locals that they’d gathered along the edge of the road to watch, completely oblivious to the sight of a couple of dogs chasing each other over the tin roof of a house on the hill below us.<\/p>\n
What to me was surreal, to them was probably as normal as a helicopter taking off. Here, the land is so steep that it’s often a short jump to the roof of a 2 storey house. The roof of this single storey had enough of a gap to let the water run off. It’s a convenience often used by the locals, who dry chilis and the meat of dead cows on the hot tin rooves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
