{"id":383,"date":"2009-10-16T03:34:46","date_gmt":"2009-10-15T21:34:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.murraygunn.id.au\/blog\/?p=383"},"modified":"2009-10-16T03:37:37","modified_gmt":"2009-10-15T21:37:37","slug":"aboriginal-elders-leave-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/murraygunn.id.au\/blog\/countries\/australasia\/australia\/383","title":{"rendered":"Aboriginal Elders Leave Community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aboriginal elders <a href=\"http:\/\/icnn.com.au\/breaking-news\/elders-%E2%80%98walk-off%E2%80%99-ampilatwaja-to-protest-intervention\/\">walked off the community<\/a> land in July to protest against the Northern Territory Intervention, which it says is &#8220;widening the gap on Indigenous disadvantage.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>This mirrors the first move to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.creativespirits.info\/aboriginalculture\/politics\/wave-hill-walkoff.html\">reclaim their traditional lands<\/a> in 1966, when Aboriginal stockmen and their families walked off the Wave Hill Pastoral lands.  Then, the action made headlines and gained national support.  This attempt to do the same doesn&#8217;t seem to have had as much media coverage and I only found out about it this week.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/stoptheintervention.org\/uploads\/files_to_download\/Amp-Walk-off-Melbourne-poster.pdf\">public meeting<\/a> will be held in Melbourne today, 16th October, to support the walk-off protest.
