There’s another side to yesterday’s entry and I don’t have an answer to that yet. Should I set an example by driving ‘properly’ according to international rules or should I let Bhutanese find their own way and just try to fit in?
According to recent articles in the Kuensel, new drivers are having to pass rigorous written tests on road rules before being given a license. I therefore have to assume that international rules do / should apply to the new intersections and highways. Should I then encourage that by giving way to the right at roundabouts and always driving on the left even if it means a longer trip?
Or should I copy the locals and drive village style. That would ensure that I don’t annoy the wrong people with my righteousness and allow me to experience life as they do.
Personally, I hope that the new test will bring about a convergence of the two options in the near future.
