Everyone knows the Prince

The royal famiy is very much a part of life in Bhutan. While I haven’t met any of them, I’ve been in the same room as a queen on one occasion and as the King’s sister on another. Today I met with one of Marie’s taikwondo instructors, a friend I made in my first week here, and drove to town with him. He’s busy, he told me. That’s normal for this father of two, who works in the Olympic Committee and produces the occasional film. But today his news is special. The Crown Prince has taken up Judo and every evening he has to take the Singaporean instructor to the Prince’s house for the lesson.
