Thunder Dragon

Bhutan, which is the English butchering of the proper name for the country, means Thunder Dragon in the local dialect. Embarrassingly, I’ve never thought to ask why. The answer was evident last night when a rumble of thunder lasted close to twenty seconds. Marie explained that it was echoing off the surrounding mountains and, though I’d never noticed before, it was quite common. It was all too easy to imagine that an enormous dragon lurked in the higher mountains and was upset at the monsoon rains.

  1. That’s very cool, MAG. Wish I could have been there to hear that. I remember you and I watching a thunderstorm once, when you were living in Kensington. That was fun, but would have been even better with thundering like you describe.

  2. I remember that too. It was the best display of lightening I’ve seen since living in Sylvania. The lightening has certainly never been as impressive here, but you would have loved that rumble.
