It turned out there was something I could do. I could ask the other wireless ISP to set me up with a higher speed account. They agreed and arranged to install the antenna today.
But this is Bhutan.
Early today, as I sat in my office in town, I was told to expect a call when they were ready to start. When I eventually gave up waiting and called them again, I was told that the antenna was installed, but because there was no one home, they couldn’t connect it for me.
The first question I have is ‘Did they get the right building?’ My landlord ‘Dr Pumpkin’ (so called because he’s a decorated doctor of traditional medicine and is shaped like a pumpkin) is well known, but still…
The second question is how they even knew there was no one home when they didn’t even know which flat I’m in.
And the last is why they put an antenna on a building at the request of a tenant without consulting the landlord, and where they put it.
I guess I’ll find out tomorrow.
